Others speculate on the media's continued reporting of "less than 20 dead" as well. I know my local radio station used those words this morning - is it coincidence they also (constantly) advertise Purina pet food?
And then I figured it out: Procter and Gamble OWNS both Iams and Eukanuba. P&G spends an awful lot of money advertising all of its products on television and in the print media. We’d like to think that their financial support of the media empires would not put a sort of gag order on the editors and writers –we’d like to believe we have a free press, not influenced by advertising dollars. It would be so reassuring to be able to think that is the case.
Yes, one does wonder why the press hasn't been after this story in full cry. They love nothing better than to print inflammatory news and try to scare the public. Now when they have a real story they could investigate, they've laid down on the job. News blackout? For what reason? I've seen several stories indicating that the FDA wants you to report to local officials. Perhaps they want the state vets to be the ones to speak.

There are more stories as of 3-26-07 indicating that local outlets are finally responding to the true scope of this story
